BTRC -Creating and Marketing A SXSW Mixer In 24 Hours Flat…

    CATEGORY: Attraction-Based Marketing Techniques

In today’s video, I’m walking you through my process for creating and marketing an event activation at SXSW from start to finish, in just 24 hours!

I decided earlier today that I was going to host a private mixer at SXSW on Saturday, which was less than 48 hours out…

STEP 1 – Create a simple, 1-pg landing site for the event that captures the narrative…

So today, my team created a 1 page landing site for the event, so there is an appropriate level of mystique and intrigue present for it, at a glance…

And I crafted the narrative and architected the invitation and registration process…

Which is more “apply” to attend than “rsvp” to attend, the way that I set the event up.

    STEP 2 – Be a worthwhile interruption…

With a timeline this tight, and the type of high quality people I want in the room, and the level of competition for so many event options at SXSW…

The narrative for this event has to be 100% INTERRUPTIVE in every way to stand out, and have people forego other events to come to this one…

Because tacos and beermosas alone won’t be enough to win space on people’s calendars at SXSW on 24 hour notice?

STEP 3 – It’s easier to network when YOU’RE the person who they need to meet…

Though people don’t believe me when I tell them, I’m naturally more of an introvert…

I’ve had to practice for A LIFETIME to learn how to move in and out of communal spaces and conversations with ease…

    But it AIN’T EASY…

I’ve worked to get here, and the reason why I’ve gotten so good at curating great events, if I’m really being honest…

Is because one of my greatest fears was always being the person in the room who didn’t know how to strike up conversation with anyone…

So, can you guess how I solved that problem?

By learning how to be the person in the front of the room who hosts the actual event…

Then everyone wants to get to know YOU, but only if the event was good…

That’s inherently easier than being the person who’s in the room, trying to figure out how to work the crowd…

And who they need to try to get to know.

SPOILER ALERT – This will go one of 2 ways, and in either case, I’ma show you the REAL…

At any rate, we’ll find out in real-time whether or not my crazy plan hatched from my kitchen table in Chicago…

To host an event less than 36 hours later in Austin, TX will work!

Tune in for either the train wreck or my victory lap…

But either way, lessons will be learned, and out here on the skinny branches being willing to risk something to gain something is where life is best lived!
